In perhaps another twist to this strangest of years, reports are suggesting that former undisputed world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson will face four-weight title-holder Roy Jones Jr. in Southern California on September 12.
According to TMZ Sports, the promotion will be called ‘Frontline Battle’ and available on Pay-Per-View as well as the social media platform Triller, a new rival to TikTok.
With Triller starting to focus on sports and live events, there will be an undercard to Tyson-Jones as well as live musical performances to accompany the promotion.
Triller will also broadcast a 10-part docuseries following both fighters in the lead-up to the eight-round exhibition bout.
‘Iron Mike’, now 54, broke the internet with his physical reinvention after returning to training in his fifties, prompting a number of star names to angle for a money-spinning encounter including old nemesis Evander Holyfield and fellow Brooklynite Riddick Bowe.
Now it seems the great Jones, who won the WBA heavyweight title against John Ruiz in March 2003, will get the fight.
It should be noted that Tyson (50-6, 44 KOs and 2 NC) hasn’t fought since a lacklustre farewell against Kevin McBride (LRTD6) in June 2005 while the 51-year-old Jones (66-9, 47 KOs) was last seen outscoring Scott Sigmon (W10) in February 2018.
