Richard Riakporhe could be set to face WBC Cruiserweight Champion Ilunga Makabu.
Boxxer Promoter Ben Shalom told Sky Sports that he will be speaking to the title holder’s promoter Don King this week.
“He wants that WBC belt.”
“We have been talking about this for a while. That’s the one Richard wants. I even did say to Richard, ‘Do you want one more [bout]?’ He wants the world title next.”
“He’s 32 years old now. He feels like he’s gone through every single level and I think people know that he’s ready, they can see that he’s ready and it’s just about making the fight now.”
Riakporhe has been in devastating form lately and his recent victory over Fabio Turchi saw him jump ten spots to number two and become the highest ranked contender with the IBF. Ironically, he has dropped one position with the WBC and is now number eight in their standings.
Second and eight round wins against Fabio Turchi and Deion Jumah have demonstrated Riakporhe’s explosive power and proof that he could be a genuine threat to the world champions at 200lbs.
