Ricky Hatton kept the door open to sharing the ring once again with old foe Floyd Mayweather, saying he would definitely consider an exhibition match against the American if the opportunity arose.
Hatton told Sky Sports News that the benefits he’s enjoyed from training for his exhibition meeting with Marco Antonio Barrera this weekend would make doing it all again tough to turn down – but told fans to wait until he gets through his dance with the Mexican first.
“I think I’d have to look at it, absolutely. To share the ring with Floyd Mayweather again would be something else. But people say to me ‘would you be interested in doing another one?’ And I’m thinking hang on a minute – let’s get the first one out of the way before I start making a decision.
But if the phone call came for someone like a Mayweather then I’d definitely look at it. What it’s done for my own well being, what it’s done to inspire others well being; I can’t say it’s been a bad thing.
I’m going to get to hear the crowd one more time in the Manchester Arena, share the ring with Marco Antonio Barrera – it’s going to be exciting.”
‘The Hitman’ brought some 20,000 Brits over to Las Vegas when he took on Mayweather all the way back in 2007, in what was one of the biggest contests involving a UK fighter this century. However, ‘TBE’ proved to be too much that night, stopping Hatton in the 10th round in a near faultless display.
Mayweather is an exhibition veteran at this stage, the latest of which coincidentally takes place this weekend too. YouTuber Deji is the man in the opposite corner this time, with the fight to be held at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai.
