Roy Jones Jr has named his number one pound for pound fighter on the planet – or should we say, fighters.
The topic of pound for pound number one is subjective, and as such can often lead to heated debates amongst fans, pundits and fighters alike.
When asked for his pick whilst speaking to DAZN, former four weight champion Jones revealed he could not bring himself to choose between two men.
Jones’ top two boxers on the planet today? Terence Crawford and Tyson Fury
“At number one, I have to go with Terence Crawford AND Tyson Fury.”
Current WBO welterweight world champion is a popular selection amongst the boxing public, having also won world titles at lightweight and light welterweight, and is well known on British shores for boasting wins over both Amir Khan and Kell Brook.
Despite his achievements, many feel ‘Bud’ needs a fight with unified world champion Errol Spence Jr to cement his legacy, however judging by recent attempts at negotiating the blockbuster, this does not look likely to happen any time soon.
Although heavyweights are seldom included in pound for pound lists, Fury’s upset win over Wladimir Klitschko as well as his epic trilogy with Deontay Wilder make his inclusion from Jones an understandable one.
He’s not the most popular boxer in the world at the minute, though, after talks for legacy defining undisputed world title fight against Oleksandr Usyk have fallen through, with many laying the blame for this firmly a the door of ‘The Gypsy King.’
It remains unclear who Fury will now fight instead, with Andy Ruiz, Joe Joyce and even Francis Ngnanou all linked to the big payday.
