Roy Jones Jr was the last man to face Mike Tyson in a ring and now he has made his prediction for his former foe’s next outing against Jake Paul.
Jones Jr and Tyson came together in the squared circle back in 2020 in an exhibition match. Both men put on an entertaining show back in November of that year on a bill named Lockdown Knockdown.
The fight was scored controversially as a draw and sold over 1.6 million PPV buys, generating over $80 million in revenue in the process.
Some four years later, the almost 58-year-old Tyson is now making a return to the ring more than two decades after his last professional outings which came in the form of a pair of losses that sent him into retirement.
Speaking on TalkSport, Jones Jr gave his view on the contest.
“You’re not going to see Mike get hurt against Jake Paul if they put on 16 oz gloves. They didn’t put that in to prospect Mike, they are there to protect Paul. We don’t want to see legends get hurt but I was not going to refuse the opportunity to face Mike.
“You do have to worry about that – sometimes two legends want to hurt each other but I don’t think Jake Paul is good enough to hurt Mike. I think the 16oz gloves and head gear are not there to protect Mike, there they’re to protect the young guy who knows not what he does by stepping in the ring with Mike.”
