Four-division world champion, Roy Jones Jr, ruled the sport in the 1990’s, being declared the fighter of the decade by the BWAA.
Since hanging up the gloves, ‘Captain Hook’ has remained in the sport as a trainer and shared some of his wisdom with one of America’s up and coming heavyweight prospects, Jared Anderson.
‘Big Baby’ Anderson has so far recorded a perfect fourteen knockout victories in as many contests, despite being just 23-years-old and turning professional less than four years ago.
Now, Anderson is expected to mount a charge to bring a heavyweight world title back to the United States.
In a documentary on the Top Rank YouTube channel, Jones explained why he believes Anderson is the ‘future of American heavyweight boxing’.
“I’ve been around long enough to know that talent alone is not enough to make it to the top. It takes hard work, dedication and it also takes having the right team around you.
Jared Anderson possesses all of the ingredients for success. Despite his growing fame and the attention that he is receiving, he remains grounded and focussed. For Jared, it’s not just about championships and accolades, his legacy is rooted in his home, his family and giving back to those around him, using his success and fame to boost the community and inspire the next generation.”
“It’s easy to get caught up in expectations, the hype and the outside opinions, but Jared knows that he can’t let that distract him from his goals. He knows that to be great, he has to stay true to himself. He is the future of American heavyweight boxing and I’m excited to see his journey unfold. So, mark my words people, remember the name, Jared Anderson.”
Anderson will take his next step towards a title shot when he takes on former world champion, Charles Martin.
