Former WBA Super, WBO and IBF heavyweight king Andy Ruiz is eyeing a December return against either ex-IBF belt holder Charles Martin or Cuban veteran Luiz Ortiz. Both potential opponents are southpaws.
After turning up out of shape and losing his belts in a rematch with former victim Anthony Joshua in December 2019, Ruiz joined forces with highly-regarded trainer Eddy Reynoso, coach of Canelo Alvarez and Ryan Garcia, and bounced back with a hard-fought decision over fellow Mexican-American Chris Arreola in May.
Ruiz was due to fight again in the autumn before undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his troublesome right knee in August.
With that surgery a success, Ruiz is now plotting a return against either Martin, who lost his IBF crown to Joshua in two rounds in April 2016, or former two-time WBC title challenger Ortiz, twice stopped by Deontay Wilder, according to ESPN.com.
