After difficulties making weight in the past, Ryan Garcia declared that he would never fight at lightweight again, and now eleven days out from his showdown with Devin Haney, Garcia’s weight has been revealed.
‘King Ry’ announced his refusal to drop back to 135lbs after his knockout win over Javier Fortuna in July 2022 up at super-lightweight. However, in his very next fight he took on Gervonta Davis at a catchweight of 136lbs, just one pound higher than the lightweight limit.
‘King Ry’ would go on to lose that contest by a body-shot knockout, a match-up that he believes was tainted by the fact that he was weight-drained, maintain that the outcome would have been different if it was at his more natural weight.
The 25-year-old now has the chance to prove his abilities at super-lightweight, as he challenges for world honours for the first time during his career against his old amateur rival, Devin Haney, for the WBC super-lightweight title.
Ahead of the contest, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman has confirmed that Garcia is very much on track to make the weight, currently scaling 146.5lbs.

Haney-Garcia will also represent the first time that Garcia has fought under the guidance of newly-appointed trainer Derrick James, who may well have helped his fighter cut weight more comfortably than he did under Joe Goossen in the past.
The event will take place on April 20th at the Barclays Center in New York and will be available to watch live on DAZN PPV.
