Fans accusing Oscar De La Hoya of paying for liposuctioned abdominal muscles likely wasn’t on your boxing bingo card, but here we are.
14 years on from retirement, the fighter turned promoter has a lot of people talking after posting a shadow boxing clip recently in which he looked ripped – too ripped for many to believe it was au naturel.
Included in that bunch is Ryan Garcia, who’s guided by De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions.
Asked by MMA Hour host Ariel Helwani if it was true the former multi-weight world champion had bought his physique, Garcia couldn’t hold in his laughter.
“I guess he did. I guess he did. Bro when I seen that I was like ‘oh sh*t he hit the gym crazy.’ I think it’s called ab sketching – or etching – whatever, I don’t know.”
Previously, the undefeated lightweight said that his relationship with De La Hoya was good.
Garcia himself will be under the spotlight soon, too. His pencilled-in fight with Gervonta Davis is set at a catchweight of 136lb, and the fighter told Helwani that he’s currently walking around at 150.
Davis stopped Hector Luis Garcia recently in Washington DC, clearing the final hurdle for the bout to be confirmed – at least in the ring, that is, with an upcoming court case for ‘Tank’ also having potential to upset plans.
Should all go as expected, the undefeated pair will meet in Las Vegas on April 15. Not only is it satisfying to see two fighters in their prime face off, it also presents itself as an advert for promotional companies working together.
The bout is planned to be produced and broadcast by Showtime whilst also available through DAZN’s PPV branch.
