Undefeated lightweight Ryan Garcia will return to the ring on April 2.
‘King Ry’ last fought in January 2021 against Olympic gold medallist Luke Campbell. Garcia survived a second-round knockdown to stop the now retired Brit with a beautiful body shot in round seven. Garcia would then go on to take a mental health break from boxing but one of the sport’s most appealing stars now has a date for his next fight.
“The resume of my career starts April 2, it should be either in L.A or Las Vegas, most likely Vegas,” he told Noah Beck’s YouTube Channel. As of yet no opponent has been announced.
Garcia, 23, also revealed in the interview some of the reasoning behind his decision to take a break from boxing.
“I decided after my fight of January 2021 to take a mental health break to recover. I was struggling deep within myself. Anybody who knows boxing knows [if] you’re not 100% mentally you’re not going to be 100% physically so you could die in the ring. So, I took that pretty serious, so I decided to take that break.
Garcia aims to fight three times in 2022 and said he feels great ahead of the anticipated resumption of a potential world-title winning career.
“I’m going to come back just as strong, just as powerful and when those knockouts come, I guarantee everyone’s going to shut up and it’s going to be like nothing happened.”
