Ryan Garcia continues to behave rather erratically and has now explained what his shocking boxing plans would be should he get banned due to failing a drug test.
Garcia has had a rollercoaster few weeks. After a controversial build-up to his last fight with Devin Haney in which many worried for the young fighter’s mental health, Garcia claimed his antics had all been a rouse.
His action in the ring backed that up as he managed to floor the previously unbeaten three times on his way to a points decision win. However, because he came in more than 3 lbs over the official weight limit for the WBC world super lightweight contest, he was unable to claim the belt.
After that superb victory, his world came crashing down just days later when it was revealed that he failed a drug test both before and after the fight having tested positive for astatine. He has always protested his innocence and has requested the B-sample to be tested. Usually, these confirm the same results but will not be revealed until May 22.
Speaking to Boxing Social, he has now revealed what he plans to do should he get a ban from the sport, which is what many expect to happen.
“I don’t care if they ban me for my whole life because I’m just going to create my own fights and my own leagues.”
He was asked if he would be happy to walk away from boxing and was quick to correct the interviewer.
“I’m not going to walk away from boxing, I’m going to walk away from this boxing, and create my own league and fight on my own show.
He was asked if he would run the fight back once more as Haney initially seemed keen to do.
“I mentally abused him so bad he’s never going to want to fight again.”
Given what Garcia has put Haney through, it was put to him that it is no surprise Haney has got mad and is petitioning for a disqualification win, but Garcia disagreed.
“Nah, I’ve fought guys on steroids I don’t care. Do steroids help you dodge a hook? He got hit with the same hook like thirty times. You think steroids help me? No it doesn’t not.”
Garcia then turned his attention to the two fighters he most wants next having called out a myriad of different names.
“Errol Spence Jr, or Fondura at 154, I will sleep both of those men, I will sleep both of those men. I will sleep Errol Spence more. He’s toast. It’s personal.”
Before he can get back in the ring, Garcia is going to have to prove his innocence, which as has been seen with the case of Conor Benn, could take some time.
