Ryan Garcia has acted out of character to say the least during the build-up to his showdown with Devin Haney, and he has now issued a severe threat to the WBC 140lb champion.
‘King Ry’ suffered a first career defeat when he was knocked out by Gervonta Davis twelve months ago, leading to the dismissal of Joe Goossen as his head trainer, who was replaced by Derrick James ahead of Garcia’s clash with Oscar Duarte in December.
The 25-year-old bounced back with a stoppage win of his own and now returns in another mammoth pay-per-view attraction, where he challenges for world honours for the first time against undefeated champion, Haney.
With their meeting now less than three weeks out, Garcia took to X to declare his shocking intentions of ‘killing Devin Haney’.
“My intention is to kill Devil Haney. No mercy I hope he is ready to die. I hope he has come to terms with it. For the record his dad announced my death first. This is war this isn’t for the faint of heart.”
In response, ‘The Dream’ clapped back by asking his rival to ensure he makes it to the ring first, alluding to suspicions that he could pull out of the bout amid reports of a mental health crisis.
“Make it to the ring. April 20th I’m gonna step on u, crush u. Mark my words.”
As Garcia states, Devin’s father Bill Haney did bring up ‘the death of Garcia as you guys know him’, insinuating his career may be over if he is defeated comfortably. Although that does of course differ to Garcia’s direct, chilling threat as both men prepare for a tasty affair.
