The location for the showdown between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia has been confirmed for New York, but ‘King Ry’ has hit out over the decision, insisting that the fight should be in Las Vegas.
Haney defends his WBC super-lightweight title against Garcia at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on April 20, live on DAZN PPV.
The bout comes after a long rivalry between the two men stemming back to the amateurs where they met six times, with each of them winning three.
Many onlookers were surprised that the upcoming fight was taking place in New York rather than Las Vegas, none more so than Garcia, who is far from pleased about the decision after airing his frustration on social media.
“This is a MGM Vegas fight, doing everything we can to bring this to Vegas and giving this fight what it deserves!!!
This decision has nothing to do with NYC but everything to do with business and what I believe is the best move for my career.”
It didn’t take long for Haney to respond, accusing Garcia of attempting to ‘escape’ from the fight, but Garcia was quick to fire back with another explanation.
Why are you trying to paint that picture to the public, towards the guy who is making you more money in your life and in your entire career- Sad to see. That is real hoe behavior which you learned from your dad so I can’t blame you.”
Haney heads into the fight after defeating Regis Prograis by unanimous decision for the WBC 140lb title in December, while Garcia was also victorious that month, stopping in the eighth round.
