Six-weight world champion turned promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, has let slip the amount that Ryan Garcia earned for his blockbuster showdown with Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis earlier this year.
The bout in April was one of this year’s most high-profile clashes – two major pay-per-view draws going head-to-head.
In the end, the fight turned out to be far more one-sided than many predicted, with Davis ending proceedings with a vicious shot to the body in the seventh round of the contest after comfortably dealing with Garcia throughout.
The event was a co-promotion between De La Hoya’s Golden Boy and Al Haymon’s PBC. Despite the financial success, Garcia and De La Hoya have since publicly fallen out and enacted legal proceedings against one another.
In an interview with Ariel Helwani on ‘The MMA Hour’, De La Hoya revealed his fighter earned $30 million for the event – which reportedly achieved over 1.2 million buys on pay-per-view – whilst discussing their fall out.
“We have a lawsuit right now. I’m not suing him for money, he’s not suing me for money, I just want him to honour my contract. Just honour your contract, that’s it. You have obligations. I want you to fight, I want you to be a legend. Do you think I wanted him to fight Tank Davis with a rehydration clause? Hell no. I’m looking out for him.”
“But he has people that are whispering in his ear – Oh Oscar’s bad, go with this other promoter, you’ll make more money – well guess what? Ryan just made 30 million dollars. I’m not doing anything wrong here. I’m trying to create a legend.”
Garcia then took to twitter to seemingly confirm the figure.

Despite the animosity, De La Hoya remains confident that he will continue to work with Garcia and claimed he was certain that he will promote the 24-year-old’s next outing.
