Sam Jones, Head of Talent at Probellum and Co-Founder of S-JAM Boxing management agency, has had his say on the opponents being mentioned for Tyson Fury’s next fight.
Jones, who knows the inner workings of heavyweight promotions better than most, couldn’t hide his disappointment at the lack of big names being lined up for Fury’s next fight on December 3rd.
Speaking to Intu Boxing, Jones said:
“Tyson Fury is No 1 heavyweight in the world, elite, elite level. But it’s just all b******s what’s happening at the moment.
People want to see Tyson Fury fight either Usyk, Joe Joyce or Anthony Joshua, maybe Andy Ruiz.
The other fights being mentioned, no one gives a s**t, no one cares and that’s the bottom line of it. Everybody is bored of hearing it, we’re just bored. I’m a fan and I’m bored of it.
Tyson Fury is the No 1 heavyweight in the world, let’s see him fight the other best heavyweights in the world, other than that no one cares.”
‘The Gypsy King’ is set to officially announce his December opponent next week, with the heavy favourite being a trilogy fight against Derek Chisora, a prospect Jones is finding hard to get excited about.
“No ones bothered, listen I’m happy for Derek Chisora, I really really like Derek Chisora and if he’s getting a pay day then good luck to him. But am I interested in that fight – absolutely f*****g not.
You’ve only got to look at their last two fights and Tyson Fury’s improved since those, Dereks older now, Tyson’s in his prime, I’m not excited by that fight. If other people are excited and people want to pay to watch it, good on them and I hope everyone has a good night.”
Fury already has two convincing wins over ‘Del Boy’, the latest was pure domination in their 2014 rematch, forcing Chisora’s corner to retire him at the end of the tenth round. Most fans are predicting a similar scenario if the trilogy does get the green light next week.
