Josh Kelly’s comeback begins on Friday night and while his team are not looking past Xhuljo Vrenozi it is impossible to avoid talk about the future.
Kelly’s promoter Kalle Sauerland along with Wasserman Boxing bring free-to-air boxing to Channel 5 on Friday night. The card not only features the return of Kelly but also the vacant British middleweight title fight between Linus Udofia and former champion Denzel Bentley.
A spotlight will be cast on Kelly to assess how the 28-year-old performs having been out of the ring for 15 months since his first professional loss to David Avanesyan. And a win for the Sunderland welterweight/super-welterweight will not only kickstart his career but speculation will quickly mount about possible big fights in the future.
“We’re not in a rush,” Sauerland told Boxing Social’s Ryan Elliott.
“We will talk about who he will fight next and there’s the Florian Marku’s, the Conor Benn’s, there’s the big one for the North-east with Lewis Ritson. So, there’s lots of options but we’re not thinking past Vrenozi on Friday night. Josh has been out a while, so he’ll be looking to put on a golden performance.”
