Scott Fitzgerald will face Filip Rzadek this weekend as he steps up preparations for his forthcoming domestic showdown with Anthony Fowler.
The 27-year-old has not been in the ring since beating Craig Morris last September at the Arena Birmingham.
Fitzgerald suffered a broken hand in that fight, on the undercard of Amir Khan’s win over Samuel Vargas, and recently returned to training.
The Commonwealth Games gold medallist requested a cobweb-blowing exercise before taking on the Liverpudlian on March 30.
Preston man ‘Fitzy’ will face the Pole on Saturday at the O2 Arena in London, exclusively live on Sky Sports, as part of the supporting cast to Ted Cheeseman’s next fight.
British super-welterweight champion Cheeseman as he steps up in level to challenge European champion at the weight Sergio Garcia.
But Fitzgerald has insisted that he will be better than ‘The Machine’ when they meet, as part of the supporting cast to Liam Smith’s clash against Sam Eggington, at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool.
“I always knew this fight was going to happen, to be honest. I am going into this fight as the underdog which is fine by me,” he said.
“I am working harder, grafting, training three times a day, recovering and resting right, and no-one has ever seen the Scott Fitzgerald that will turn up on that night.”
Fitzgerald is looking to avenge an amateur defeat at the hands of Fowler –– a fellow Commonwealth Games gold medallist from Glasgow back in 2014 –– and he believes there’s enough in his tank to win and potentially setup a showdown with the aforementioned Cheeseman who, should he win on Saturday, should lie in wait for the winner of this fight.
“From the day I fought Fowler as an amateur –– I was 16 so about 10 or 11 years ago and he beat me easily –– I knew from that moment I knew I wanted it.
“I don’t think they are overlooking me. Cheeseman keeps saying things on Twitter and he’s got to reply. I don’t get involved like that, if someone asks me something on there, I will reply, but that’s it.
“It’s going to be really exciting. I am going in there, like I say, the very best I’ve been up to now as a pro and ready for anything, [no matter] how long it goes and [I will] do whatever I need to do.
“I am very confident I will win this fight and I am looking forward to it. My prediction? Me winning, whichever way.”
