Although he recently announced his retirement, Shakur Stevenson has now said he is open to fighting Teofimo Lopez at any weight.
The young Newark boxer has won world titles in three weight classes, most recently at lightweight against Edwin De Los Santos though the lacklustre performance was not his best.
Lopez has also had a mixed few years. He famously dethroned the magnificent Vasyl Lomachenko with a career-best showing and close points win back in 2020 to unify the WBO, WBA, IBF and The Ring lightweight titles.
In his next fight, however, he lost all those honours to Australian George Kabossos Jnr. After time out to sort out some private family matters he returned with wins over Pedro Campa, Sandor Martin and Josh Taylor which saw him win the WBO super-lightweight title.
He has just defended that belt against Jamaine Ortiz but many onlookers were not that impressed with his showing. Stevenson has now taken to X to say he has reached out to Lopez for a fight after it was revealed Gervonta Davis was not interested.
“I just dm him to get it all together but he living in a fantasy world I told him I’m here whenever he’s ready lol.”
When weight was brought up, Stevenson replied by saying it was no issue.
“Weight ain’t a problem for me.”
He then claimed Lopez would back out like many of the other fighters he has chased.
“Yeah when it come a to me they always looking for same way out of the fight so they say bs that they know is not right but In due time tables will turn 💪🏾”
Should this fight be made it would represent the high-level contest Stevenson has always said he wanted.
