Shakur Stevenson Calls Former Champion ‘Terrible For Boxing’ In Heated Back And Forth

Shakur Stevenson continues his search for an opponent in the lightweight division, and he’s becoming increasingly frustrated with his fellow fighters.

The two-weight world champion is looking to make that three at 135lbs, and has a nailed on shot at the vacant WBC title should undisputed king, Devin Haney, move up to super-lightweight.

The sanctioning body confirmed that Haney would be named Champion in Recess, and that Stevenson as mandatory challenger would fight for the full title in his next bout.

The man in the opposite corner looked set to be Vasily Lomachenko, but their shared promoter, Bob Arum, said the Ukrainian is taking some time away from the sport.

Stevenson was surprised then to see rumours that former unified champion, George Kambosos Jr, would face Lomachenko.

Kambosos suggested Stevenson fight Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis instead, prompting the undefeated Newark native to brand the Aussie ‘terrible’ for the sport.

Kambosos fired back, calling Stevenson a ‘pussy’ for not accepting a 25% purse split offer to fight Haney.

Stevenson then said Kambosos was more interested in an online war of words than stepping through the ropes.

Finally, the Aussie hinted that he had big plans already.

Fans might want them to settle it in the ring, but Stevenson has said that he’s looking for bigger fights and that Kambosos was wrongly awarded the victory in his latest bout against the UK’s Maxi Hughes.

Instead, he’s rumoured to be facing the WBC’s number four ranked contender, Frank Martin. William Zepeda and Jamaine Ortiz have also been mentioned as potentials.

As for the ‘Tank’ fight, Stevenson recently said that it would be the biggest in boxing, and believes it will happen one day. For now, there are promotional boundaries and the timelines don’t link up.
