Shakur Stevenson and Devin Haney have been at each other’s throats following a failed attempt to make a fight happen.
Stevenson is mandatory challenger for Haney, who currently holds all four belts in the lightweight ranks. Whilst toying with a move up in weight, Haney was said to have offered Stevenson a fight with a 25% purse split.
The Newark native and two-weight world champion said it wasn’t a real deal, valued his worth much higher, and that was the end of that. Later, promoter Bob Arum would call the offer ‘not serious.’
Following a back and forth on X (formerly Twitter), Stevenson threatened to leak tape of Haney’s father and trainer, Bill.
That video has now been posted on YouTube, and appears to show the elder Haney praising Stevenson and even hinting that Devin would move weights to avoid a fight.
“‘Kur always done got in on Devin … If you got off any with ‘Kur it was a plus. If you just had a good day, that’s how it was with him, all the way up until now, brother. That’s why I told him, I said inside the weight classes when we move … if it’s too hot at 30 we already ready to go to 40 bro.”
Whilst the two fighters were always a weight class apart in the amateurs, they sparred together consistently.
The back and forth on social media continued, with talk of an unnecessary fight outside of the ring materialising after insults directed towards family members.

Fans would rather see it go down in the ring, but the two undefeated Americans are soon to be competing in different divisions once more.
Haney has made the WBC aware that he is close to signing a fight to face super-lightweight champion, Regis Prograis, this year, and the sanctioning body has decided that he will be announced Champion in Recess when that happens.
It means Stevenson will have the chance to fight for the full vacant title in his next bout, and that has recently been ordered to be fellow southpaw, Frank Martin.
Should Haney decide to drop back down to lightweight, he will be entitled to a shot at the champion on 50/50 terms.
