A two weight world champion aged just 26, many observers believe Newark southpaw Shakur Stevenson is amongst the most talented fighters in the sport of boxing.
However, Stevenson has revealed that he believes a stablemate of his is currently the number one boxer in the world, and there are no prizes for guessing who.
In this clip shared on YouTube, Stevenson even claims Crawford would defeat undisputed super middleweight world champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, whom he describes as the “second best fighter in boxing,” if that fight were to happen next.
“‘Bud’ is the best fighter in boxing! If ‘Canelo’ was his weight, then I’m telling you – he would beat ‘Canelo.'”
“‘Canelo’ is real nice, he’s a really good fighter. I just think that with his style, if he was in the ring with ‘Bud’ that he would outbox him. The best chance he’d have would be a punchers chance to try and knock ‘Bud’ out, but other than that I feel like ‘Bud’ is the better fighter, to me.”
“But ‘Canelo’ is a bad motherf*****. He is the second best fighter in boxing to me.”
Undisputed welterweight king Crawford’s confidence is understandably sky high after his stunning win over Errol Spence Jr last month at the T-Mobile Arena, and he claims he would be more than happy to jump up three weight classes to take on Alvarez.
The monster fight is unlikely to happen any time soon, however, as Alvarez is due to defend his titles on September 30th against Jermell Charlo, whilst Crawford is likely to have to rematch Spence towards the back end of the year.
