Shakur Stevenson Says Fight Against Rival ‘Wouldn’t Be Fair’: “I’d Beat Him So Bad”

Shakur Stevenson is not a fighter short of confidence, and has called out the majority of the lightweight division since moving up to 135lbs earlier this year.

Devin Haney, Gervonta Davis and Vasiliy Lomachenko have all been on the receiving end of some fighting talk from Shakur, as he looks move towards an opportunity at becoming a three weight world champion later in 2023.

However, in a recent interview with FightHype, the Olympic silver medalist sent a chilling message to former Lomachenko opponent Jamaine Ortiz, who Stevenson coldly stated he would “beat the f*** out of.”

“I would definitely be willing to smoke Jamie Ortiz, I’m going to beat the f*** out of him. I’m going to beat him so bad, he don’t understand.”

“He doesn’t understand what he’s talking himself into.”

“Truth be told, that wouldn’t even be fair. I will break him down, he’ll be so surprised that little old me broke him down.”

“If he’s tough, he’ll stay in there for twelve. If not, he’s got to go.”

Although not the biggest name, Ortiz is a solid fighter and scored a win over former world champion Jamel Herring last May, before just losing out to Lomachenko in a tight decision later the same year.

Stevenson announced his arrival to the lightweight division in impressive fashion with a dominant performance over Shuichiro Yoshino last month in front of a hometown crowd in Newark, with the bout culminating in referee Allen Huggins waving it off in the sixth round.

The slick southpaw is a world champion at featherweight and super featherweight aged just 25, and many in the sport feel it is simply a matter of time before he starts adding straps at 135lbs to his already impressive collection.
