It might not come as a shock to many but Shakur Stevenson has already made a U-turn on his retirement announcement and has now revealed a next fight date.
Stevenson posted a message on X to say he would stay in the gym and hone his craft but would no longer be fighting in the paid ranks. That was just a couple of weeks ago but since then he has stayed active on the platform and had plenty to say about his rivals.
He had come in for some criticism himself with a rather unexciting showing against Edwin De Los Santos and had bemoaned the lack of opportunities he was getting for big fights.
Since then he has now posted new messages on X saying he couldn’t keep himself away from the sport and is ready to confirm an opponent.
“I know right couldn’t keep myself away from it Love this s**t too much lol.”
He then added that he is ready to go against anyone and wants to fight this summer.
“I’ll fight any and everybody this what I do.. See y’all in June💪🏾 #ChasingGreatness”
Yesterday it seemed that he was angling for a fight with WBO super-lightweight title holder Teofimo Lopez, who himself is coming of a first defence of that title against Jermaine Ortiz.
Not many people were impressed with what they saw across 12 rather uneventful rounds in Las Vegas this past week from Lopez, but either way, it’s good for fight fans that the talented and still-young Stevenson will be back in a ring before long.
