Former world heavyweight champions Tyson Fury and Shannon Briggs have exchanged a couple of verbal jabs on social media but an official fight is yet to be solidified. A few months ago Briggs started calling Fury out on his Instagram in hopes of landing a fight against ‘The Gypsy King’.
Fury has stated that from all of his potential comeback fight opponents he would pick Briggs.
Speaking to TMZ.com, the 46-year-old Briggs shed some light into the current situation between him and Fury.
He believes there is a chance he will fight Fury in April next year.
“I feel like the fight is going to happen next year we’ve been talking for some time now,” said Briggs to TMZ.
“We’re looking at April right now.
“It’s going to be a great fight, he’s been off for two to three years now, I’ve been off for over a year.”
Briggs was schedulled to fight Fres Oquendo in back in June but due to a failed drug test in May, ‘The Cannon’ was put on a suspension for six months which he has now served.
“There is no situation. It’s over. I was on a six month ban over a banned substance which I took. Unfortunately I was suspended and my fight got cancelled against Fres Oquendo for the WBA title. But I’m back now. Look at me. I was subscribed testosterone for depression. That lead to me coming back and feeling great,” told Briggs in an interview with IFL.tv.
During the interview with IFL, Briggs went on a rant about Fury and said that he’s willing to fight him literally anywhere but ‘The Cannon’ still has doubts if Fury is serious about his comeback.
“It’s best for you not to fight me. I’m not regular like everybody else. I’m different. I want to fight like a street fight. Old Mike Tyson, that’s what I’m on. Fury is nothing. Fury is fat, out of shape. He’s lost some weight, yeah I’m impressed. He’s trying but I think he’s BS’n. I don’t think he’ll fight.
“Don’t play no more games. Stop making videos. Send the contract and I’ll come over to anywhere you want to fight at. Manchester, London, Hackney, Birmingham.. I’ll fight you in Harrods. We can make the fight in Harrods,” laughed Briggs.
The American heavyweight boxer confirmed he’s had talks with promoter Frank Warren about a fight in the UK but Briggs’ biggest concern is Fury not stepping into the ring and fight him.
“I don’t know how serious he is about fighting again. I have seen his training and all that bu we don’t know how much of it is just talk. If he’s serious, we’ll do it.”
Briggs also brought up Anthony Joshua.
“At the end of the day I might have come after Joshua. Because he’s looking like he’s the man. If he has the belt and when it’s time, I’m gonna go after by brother,” told Briggs.
