Shawn Porter has weighed in with a prediction for the fast approaching undisputed super middleweight world title fight between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Jermell Charlo.
Undisputed light middleweight champion Charlo will move up two whole weight divisions to take on Alvarez at the T-Mobile Arena on September 30th, the first time two reigning undisputed champions have locked horns in the four belt era.
And on a recent edition of ThePorterWay podcast, former welterweight world champion Porter explained why inactivity could prove to be ‘Iron Man’s undoing.
“I’ve got Canelo. The number one reason is because of the lay off, I just think Charlo’s had too much time off. I respect what he did in the rematch against Castano, he made adjustments.”
But now you’ve went over a year without seeing the fruits of your labour.
I got it 70-30 for Canelo”
Though Alvarez is favoured by the majority of pundits to emerge with the victory in Las Vegas and is a betting favourite, he hasn’t looked his brilliant best in his last three showings and some think he could be on the slide.
Charlo will perhaps have to force himself to believe that, after over 60 professional fights, the Guadalajara icon is beginning to slow down and he has landed the fight at the perfect time.
The Showtime PPV blockbuster is ‘Canelo’s first of a three fight deal with Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions, with the likes of David Benavidez and Demetrius Andrade all potentially in the running for future fights, as well as talk of a legacy defining bout against Terence Crawford.
