Shawn Porter has weighed in with his prediction for a potential blockbuster clash between Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua.
Former welterweight world champion Porter now plies his trade as an analyst on ESPN, where he is quickly growing a reputation as one of the best in the game.
And, unfortunately for ‘AJ’ fans, ‘Showtime’ told Behind The Gloves that he favours Wilder to come out on top if the two heavy hitters do end up facing off later this year.
“Entertaining, still intriguing. Even though both guys have had their own roller coaster rides in their own careers, this is one that they’d both get up for.”
“I favour Deontay Wilder now”
Skills Challenge Group plan to stage Wilder vs Joshua in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia this December, a fight that many boxing fans would have ruled out ever happening not so long ago.
On what would be an unprecedented night for the sport, the plan is to host the bout on the same night as an undisputed heavyweight world title showdown between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk
Up until recently, Wilder had been expected to take on former world champion Andy Ruiz Jr, after being ordered to face him in a final eliminator for Fury’s WBC world title, whilst Joshua was expected to rematch old foe Dillian Whyte over the summer.
After talks for both went quiet, there were rumours that a significantly more lucrative proposition could be in play for the pair, and so it proved.
The card in Saudi would likely be the richest in the history of boxing with figures being quoted of around £300 million.
