Shawn Porter has given his two cents on a potential clash between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder, and has pinpointed one thing that he believes will give Joshua the best chance of overcoming ‘The Bronze Bomber.’
It seems at the moment that a majority of pundits are picking Wilder to beat Joshua, with a meeting between the pair earmarked for Saudi Arabia this December.
Speaking on his podcast ThePorterWay, former world champion Porter explained that having one more fight with new trainer Derrick James would go a long way if Joshua is to defeat Wilder.
“I want to see Wilder vs ‘AJ.’ I think that Wilder would beat him, but I think that would be a really good fight.
One more fight with coach Derrick James, and they will be ready for a Deontay Wilder fight. I think right now, Deontay would get the best of Anthony Joshua.
I think maybe one more fight for Anthony Joshua to get his feet wet, and to get a little more confident and comfortable with Derrick James and they would be ready for that fight.
I also think that, even though both guys have lost a number of times since the fight was really hyped up and talked about, it’s still a really good fight, will sell well and is definitely a fight I welcome.”
Skill Challenge Entertainment are bullish in their desire to host AJ vs Wilder, even if they can’t agree a deal for an undisputed showdown between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk on the same show, which has been the long term goal of the group.
Joshua is of course familiar to competing Saudi Arabia, with the oil rich country the host of both his successful rematch against Andy Ruiz Jr back in 2019 and his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk last summer.
Whilst Wilder has never boxed in Saudi himself, he was seen in attendance at the Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul fight, where it is speculated that early talks for a fight with Joshua may have taken place.
