In an interview with Fight Hub TV, former two-time welterweight champion Shawn Porter weighed in on a potential matchup between lightweight contenders Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis.
Asked whether Garcia would beat Davis, Porter responded with a definitive answer:
‘No!’
Garcia has been calling out for a fight with Davis for some time now and while a bout between the two is nowhere near being finalized, that has not prevented boxing fans from discussing the potential outcomes should the two collide.
Garcia has had two fights this year, one in April against Emmanuel Tagoe which he won by unanimous decision and another where he fought Javier Fortuna, winning by sixth round knockout.
On the other hand, Davis has fought once, winning by sixth round technical knockout against Rolando Romero in May.
Both men are looking to have one more bout this year but potential opponents for either remain unknown.
In the same interview, Porter also provided his thoughts on the lightweight division.
When asked about different potential matchups, Porter expressed his belief that no matchup is easy for any of the current stars at lightweight.
“I think every fight there’s adversity for everybody. I do have Tank (Davis) as my number one at 135 but I think it’s fast chess. We see all those fights and all those fights are great and competitive.”
Porter made it clear who he considers to be the top three lightweights in the world but was also quick to point out that he believes the other contenders are not far off from the top.
“I would say Tank, [Vasiliy] Lomachenko, and then [Devin] Haney, but everybody else is right there.”
