Frank Warren’s summer season of shows carries on this Saturday night at Copper Box in London with unbeaten star Hamzah Sheeraz headlining for the first time.
The towering 23-year-old is now campaigning at middleweight and faces Francisco Emanuel Torres for the vacant WBC Silver Middleweight Title. Sheeraz has been tipped for great things by Warren since early on in his career and the Queensbury promoter also sees him becoming a mainstream star as well.
Boxing Social’s Andi Purewal asked Warren what he hopes to see from his rising talent.
“I just wanna see him do what he does. It’s his second fight at middleweight. He’s comfortable at the weight, it suits him down to the ground, he’s a big guy.”
“I just wanna see him go out there and do a job.”
Warren added:
“Every fight he has he improves; he’s looking better and better.”
“He’s maturing really well as a fighter. He’s got a sensible head on his shoulders, he’s a very sensible guy, I think he’s a credit to his family and he’s a credit to boxing.”
“I really hope that he’ll go all the way because I think he’s a 21st century British sportsman and he can cross over and be a little bit special. He can be a great ambassador for boxing and for certainly sport and his country.”
Another Queensbury Promotions middleweight is current British champion Denzel Bentley who regained his Lonsdale strap in May after a thriller with Linus Udofia. Could we see the title holder defending against Sheeraz soon? Warren answered:
“I’m sure that can happen soon. It’s a fight that both fighters want. We’ll get the one out the way on the 16th first of all.”
