A violent gunman opened fire on Floyd Mayweather and his team on Monday morning in Atlanta, Georgia.
Mayweather was sitting inside of a car while being transported to his hotel from a nightclub. The former boxing world champion was throwing a party at a Waffle House restaurant before making his way to the nightclub. His bodyguard Greg La Rosa kept a close eye on ‘Money’ throughout the night before eventually sustaining a gunshot wound during the shooting.
The gunman attacked Floyd’s convoy of cars at an intersection but Mayweather sitting in his SUV was not hurt. Bodyguard La Rosa received medical attention after the incident and has been released from the hospital.
A statement said:
“We believe that Mr Mayweather may have been in one of the other vehicles in the [convoy] and was not injured.
“At this time, it appears that this was not a random shooting and the shooter was targeting the victim’s vehicle,” APD spokesman Donald Hannah said according to the Daily Mirror.
Reports say Mayweather was in Atlanta for promotional duties and partied with his entourage after a boxing event. The Mirror writes that Mayweather could have been aware of a potential attack.
