A date has finally be set for the eagerly awaited rematch between Liam “beefy” Smith and Liam Williams .
Frank Warrens Queensbury promotions have scheduled the grudge for October 28th at the Manchester evening news arena with the interim WBO world light middleweight championship on the line.
Former WBO world champion Smith came out victorious in the first fight, Welshman Williams, 25 was withdrawn from the fight by his corner at the start of the 10th round with blood pouring from a severe cut to his eye.
Williams had seemed in control of the contest and despite a late onslaught from Smith, the Welshman was one point ahead on all of the judges’ scorecards. After investigation, the cut which required plastic surgery was the result of a blatant head butt.
Since the action packed encounter back in April the two fighters have been engaging in verbal battles over social media and have simultaneously expressed their desire to rematch one another.
Smith lost his WBO world title to outstanding Mexican Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in Dallas Texas last year and never won the interim belt in the first fight due to failing to make weight .
