After the frustrations of not exacting revenge against Mauricio Lara there may be a silver lining for Josh Warrington.
Lara and Warrington met at Headingley Stadium in an anticipated rematch but matters ended just as the fight was heating up. A nasty cut caused by an accidental headbutt to Lara brought the fight to an early conclusion in the second round with the fight declared a Technical Draw.
Despite Warrington’s eagerness to ‘wipe the slate clean’ the likelihood is that a third fight would not happen until next year. The situation leaves Warrington with a gap to fill and the former IBF Featherweight champion told talkSPORT that he would like travel Stateside with his army of fans.
“I’ll sit down with the team and see what we can come up with…
“I think I’ve made it clear that I’d love to fight in the States.
“I’ve boxed in Leeds at the arena ten times, I’ve done Elland Road, I’ve now done Headingley, I’ve done Manchester Arena.
“I grew up watching Ricky Hatton and Joe Calzaghe go over there.
“It’s just for the experience more than anything and to give my following the chance to be out there with me as well.”
