Be it NBA players, NFL stars or combat sports athletes, Stephen A Smith is known for not holding back regardless of what sport he’s discussing.
And a huge name in the world of boxing has found himself on the end of one of Smith’s famous rants.
Following his loss to Gervonta Davis in April, Ryan Garcia caught some slack from Smith, who blasted ‘King Ry’ for his game plan at the T-Mobile Arena.
Speaking on ESPN, Smith went on to claim that Garcia was “exposed” by Davis.
“You don’t walk in standing straight up to Gervonta Davis. You’re the longer, slimmer fighter. You stay away, you use your jab and you move.
He came in there trying to knock Gervonta out with a point to prove. Gervonta is too skilled, too powerful and too savvy. He baited him, caught him in the second round and dropped him, and then caught him with a body shot to the liver in the seventh round – because you were standing right in front of him!
Ryan Garcia made a mistake, he showed his youth and he got exposed. Now back to the drawing board.”
Garcia quickly parted ways with previous coach Joe Goossen following the Davis defeat, and has decided to link up with the esteemed Derrick James at his Dallas gym, which boasts the likes of Errol Spence Jr, Jermell Charlo and Anthony Joshua.
The 24 year old also announced he will be moving up back up to super lightweight, and has been linked to world title fights against Teofimo Lopez, Regis Prograis and Rolando Romero.
