Shakur Stevenson has cast his eye over the upcoming contest between Vasyl Lomachenko and George Kambosos Jr.
This fight will see each former champion get a chance to regain some world titles as the IBO and vacant IBF lightweight belts will be up for grabs when they come together in the ring. The fight is scheduled to take place down under in Perth, Australia on May 12.
One keen observer will be former Olympic silver medallist Stevenson who, via comments reported by Boxing Scene, thinks that despite Lomachenko losing out on the undisputed titles against Devin Haney in 2023, he will come through this one with the win.
“I think Lomachenko stops Kambosos. I don’t think Kambosos is on a high level.”
Aussie fighter Kambosos has proven himself at the top level before when he managed to beat the highly rated Teofimo Lopez to become an unlikely unified champion, but has since lost twice himself to Haney.
After taking all the belts in the division, Haney has since vacated and moved up and has already begun to collect titles in the division above with a win against Regis Prograis, while Kambosos got back to winning ways with a victory over Brit Maxi Hughes.
Stevenson thinks the 35-year-old Lomachenko still has enough to come through this one and is then eyeing a match-up with the Ukrainian stylist himself.
“After, I think that’s the fight for me. I think me and Lomachenko gotta lock-in.”
