IBF Flyweight champion Sunny Edwards wants to jump two weight classes and fight bantamweight Paul Butler.
‘The Baby-Faced Assassin’ recently became a two-time world champion at 118lbs having beat Jonas Sultan to win the WBO interim last month. The 33-year-old was then elevated to full status by the governing body following their decision to strip John Riel Casimero of his title.
Edwards, who has made two defences of his title against Jayson Mama and Muhammad Waseem, says he is deadly serious about making the leap if Butler accepts. However, the brash 26-year-old isn’t confident a fight between the two will happen.
“I am one billion per cent serious about fighting Paul Butler. I don’t say things that I don’t mean. Not in boxing, not in my private life,” said Edwards.
“It’s a fight I’d be 100% confident with. It would be an all-British world title fight, but I couldn’t really see it happening, if I’m honest, because if I was Paul Butler, I would stay every possible mile in this world away from me and I think that will be the response.”
