The war of words between Jack Catterall and Josh Taylor has continued to roll on this week and now Josh Taylor has updated on the situation regarding their rematch once more.
Ever since Taylor took a controversial points win over Caterall in February 2022, these two have gone back and forth over the internet.
Many fans believe Catterall should have become the undisputed undisputed light-welterweight champion that night having put on a career-best performance and even sitting Taylor on the canvas.
Speaking to Boxing Social, he was asked at the weekend if the rematch with Catterall could be next.
“Yeah well we think so, we’re working on it. I don’t know where that thing from the other day saying we’re agreed came from but we are in negotiations and talk and stuff so hopefully it will be next.”
He was then asked if he would like to finally put this long-running issue to bed.
Yeah, obviously, it should have happened right away but I picked up an injury at the start of last year, the fight got postponed, then Jack took another fight.
“Then the WBC ordered me to fight my mandatory Teofimo Lopez at Madison Square Garden, so of course I was going to take that fight with both hands and get paid very well, but yeah hopefully it can get made next.”
Taylor lost to Lopez via unanimous decision meaning no belts would be on the line should this rematch happen, but there is such bitterness between the two men that setting the score is motivation enough.
