Legendary boxing trainer turned analyst, Teddy Atlas, has weighed in with his prediction for the highly anticipated fight between Devin Haney and Vasiliy Lomachenko.
Haney captured and defended the lightweight undisputed crown against George Kambosos Jr in Australia, but he faces his toughest test when he goes up against an elite but ageing Lomachenko.
On his podcast ‘The Fight’, although Atlas is full of praise for Lomachenko he’s tipping Haney to retain his titles.
βI love both of them. Honestly I favour Haney in this matchup. But he’s against a fighter who’s been great, a special fighter who’s got more experience than Haney, who’s got two gold medals from the olympics, who won his first world title in what, his third fight.
It’s hard, even though he’s getting long in the tooth, it’s hard to go against a guy like that. special guys like him know how to win. Sometimes on one given night they can bring it back.β
Atlas thinks the Ukrainian will get chances to test Haney’s chin but predicts the fight goes the distance.
βIt figures it will go the distance with the heart of both these guys.
Haney’s chin isn’t granite but he’s got the biggest heart, he’s got a huge heart, he’s game but something about him but before the nights over you sometimes get a chance to test his chin. He usually give you one chance to time him with something and Loma knows how to time people. Neither are huge punchers, so with all that said I’m going to say it goes the distance.β
Haney and Lomachenko will go toe to toe in Las Vegas, live on ESPN+ in America and Sky Sports in the UK.
