Teofimo Lopez and Devin Haney’s father Bill have gone back and forth on social media, with Bill stating they are open to making a fight to unify the WBC and WBO super-lightweight titles, whilst demanding that Lopez refrains from continuing to call out Terence Crawford.
Lopez is scheduled to fight Jamaine Ortiz next month, in the first defence of his 140lb belt but already it seems that ‘The Takeover’ is thinking about who may come afterwards, with Crawford being the name on the tip of his tongue as of late.
He and Haney were linked to a clash, but Lopez’s demand of twenty-million-dollars reportedly caused talks to collapse, a reason why Bill Haney took to social media to tell Lopez to stop his Crawford call-outs, believing Lopez may demand another unrealistic figure.
“Teofimo Lopez, if you don’t knock it off, talking about how you want ‘Bud’ Crawford… I have just seen you and your daddy and y’all yelled, ‘why didn’t we offer you twenty million’, so you can imagine what you’d be talking about to fight ‘Bud’ Crawford.
“Listen, act like you have got some sense and we can make Haney versus Lopez for that 140lbs unification. Yeah baby, act like you have got some sense and stop talking about ‘Bud’ Crawford, you don’t want none of ‘Bud’ Crawford and you don’t deserve none. Knock it off.”
In response, Lopez shared his excitement at the prospect of the showdown but indicated that he is fully focussed on Ortiz.

Lopez-Ortiz takes place on Thursday February 8 in Las Vegas, with big fights clearly looming for the victor. Meanwhile, Haney is expected to face mandatory challenger Sandor Martin after his proposed bout with Ryan Garcia fell through.
