Exuberant and full of adrenaline Teofimo Lopez let his words go as fast as his hands in the post-fight interview following his win over Pedro Campa last night in Las Vegas.
‘The Takeover’ took seven rounds to beat the Mexican who provided a lot of heart and will to make up for his lack of abilities to compete with the former lightweight champion.
ESPN’s Bernardo Osuna was the man with the mic and asked the winner about the difference between fighting at 140lbs compared to 135.
“We’ve been at 135 for about nine years it was killing my body, since I was a teenage kid. I just turned 25. We want Josh Taylor. We want [Regis] Prograis, we want [Jose] Zepeda. We want all the belts. We want to become a two-time world champion.”
Taylor has already vacated the WBC and WBA titles with the former set to be contested by Prograis and Zepeda. The latter will be fought out between Alberto Puello and Batyr Akhmedov next weekend.
The Scot, who still holds the WBO and IBF belts, is moving towards a November rematch with Jack Catterall.
Lopez was asked about a possible fight with fellow 140lb newbie Ryan Garcia whose promoter Oscar De La Hoya was ringside for last night’s action in Vegas. However, the victor went in a different direction with his answer.
“If Josh Taylor is too busy with his wedding (Writer’s note: Taylor got married in June) and there’s nobody else around because the WBA belt is taken and the WBC is going to be fought between Zepeda and Prograis then so fucking be it. I’ll take all them boys and take their whole dreams away. I’m here to be their nightmare.”
