Teofimo Lopez’ stock is high at the moment, after his epic performance to defeat Josh Taylor and win the WBO super lightweight world title back in June.
Not content for a tick over fight after that memorable showing, Lopez has his eyes set on one of the biggest names in boxing.
Ryan Garcia’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya recently floated the idea of his charge taking on Lopez during super bowl weekend next year
And in a recent interview with Fight Hub TV, Lopez’ promoter Bob Arum appeared to be more than happy for the mouth watering clash to be next.
“I think that [Lopez vs Garcia] is a great idea. Oscar, I consider him a good friend and I promoted him for so many years.
Hopefully that fight can come together for his next fight. I can’t guarantee it, but that is what Teofimo is looking at.”
After a series of flat performances stemming back to his upset defeat to George Kambosos Jr back in 2021, many felt Lopez was lost as a fighter and would never recapture the form that saw him defeat the likes of Vasiliy Lomachenko.
However, he managed to put all the pieces together and looked as every against Taylor this summer, a fight in which he went in the clear betting underdog.
More big fights seem like an inevitability for ‘The Takeover,’ especially given Devin Haney has just moved up to 140lbs and Gervonta Davis, Shakur Stevenson and co may not be too far behind him
