Former lightweight division ruler Teofimo Lopez hopes to return this summer after undergoing hand surgery on Thursday.
ESPN revealed the news about the 24-year-old who now won’t be able to punch with his right hand for six weeks. Once fully recovered the former WBA, IBF and WBO title holder at 135lbs will begin his route back to the top by campaigning at 140lbs.
Lopez manager David McWater told ESPN that Arnold Barbosa Jr remains a possible opponent for his client’s comeback having not fought since losing to George Kambosos Jr five months ago.
“This has been a problem for a long time, and because that [Kambosos] fight got postponed so many times, in reality we had the time to fix it but we never knew we had the time so it’s been going on forever,” said McWater.
