News of Terence Crawford’s next fight may be about to surface.
The 33-year-old WBO welterweight champion hasn’t fought since November 2020 when the unbeaten American dealt with former belt holder Kell Brook in four rounds.
Since that night inside Top Rank’s Las Vegas bubble the former lightweight and undisputed super-lightweight champion has been linked with many an opponent from 147lbs to 154lbs.
Crawford took to Instagram to hint at his return by saying, “I’ll be back real soon” featuring an image taken just before he made his ring walk for his title defence against Brook.
The response on social media was somewhat negative which may stem from rumours linking Crawford with a fight against Jose Zepeda. The 32-year-old Californian, unbeaten since 2019, has been unsuccessful in two world title attempts at 135lbs and 140lbs against Terry Flanagan (L RTD2) and Jose Carlos Ramirez (L MD12) respectively. As things stand Zepeda is without a ranking with any of the governing bodies at 147lbs but is the number 2 and 5 contender with the WBC and WBO at 140lbs.
In the super-lightweight division Top Rank’s Josh Taylor reigns supreme having become the undisputed champion in May. Promoter Bob Arum has gone on record to say he would like to make the Crawford-Taylor fight at 147lbs but it remains to be seen what the Scot’s next move will be.
