Terence Crawford’s trainer, Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre, believes Errol Spence’s team will ‘move the goalposts’ when his man emerges victorious.
The two welterweight champions are set to finally face off after a long wait, crowning the first four-belt 147lbs champion and, in the eyes of many, the best active fighter in the sport.
It’s no secret that both are confident, and the same goes for their teams. ‘BoMac’ – who has also worked with Crawford opponent, Amir Khan – told Fight Hub TV ‘Bud’ will be ready for 24 rounds.
“Just looking at how bad Terence wants the fight, and how much he prepares, we probably gonna be prepared to go 24 rounds, but if he hurt him he gonna stop him.”
Together, ‘BoMac’ and Crawford have had world title success in three divisions, and becoming undisputed at welterweight will be their crowning glory.
He’s convinced it happens, but believes – as he has done in the past – that his man won’t get credit. Rather, Spence’s side will make an excuse.
“Terence is different man, and the world knows it. That’s why he’s the favourite, that’s why the majority of picks are going his way. Terence knows how to take it away from whatever fighter he’s standing in front of. Make him look ordinary.”
“There’s been many fighters out there that they say this is his greatest test, and then it looks like it’s a sparring match. Then he doesn’t get any credit.”
“I’ll bet you this. I bet you when Bud beat his ass, it’s gonna be an excuse. They’re gonna move the goalposts back a little further. They gonna come up with something. Watch.”
Crawford and Spence will step through the ropes on July 29 in Las Vegas in what will likely be the highlight of boxing’s calendar year.
