“That’s the one I want next”: Chris Avila calls out former UFC star for Misfits title fight

American MMA fighter Chris Avila has set his sights on a fight with a former UFC star. The 33-year-old believes that fighting his new shot, who doubles as a Misfits fighter, could benefit his career the most. Among other things, winning the potential bout could earn Avila a new championship title. What’s unclear, however, is whether his next target wants a showdown with him.

Avila is looking beyond this Saturday, when he’ll face Brandon Jenkins, “the Human Highlight Reel” at the Intuit Dome. The bout is on the undercard of the Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano event from the Most Valuable Promotions (MVP). Saturday’s bout won’t earn Avila a gold belt, but successfully challenging a titleholder comes with undeniable perks that allure the California-born star.

Chris Avila wants to challenge Tony Ferguson’s MFB title

Tony Ferguson won the current MFB Middleweight Championship last December after defeating Warren Spencer with an unanimous decision. The Misfits Mania win in Dubai marked his first winning streak since 2019, solidifying his transition into boxing. However, success has many friends and foes, as athletes like Avila are curious about stripping Ferguson of his title.

“There’s some names at Misfits I would like to go and get. I wanna fight Tony Ferguson. I wanna challenge him for his belt that he has over there. That’s the one I want next.”

Ferguson’s career began in 2008, about three years before the UFC signed him after he won The Ultimate Fighter 13. He remained with the UFC till 2025 and recorded significant feats with the promotion. Widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters to not gain an undisputed belt, Ferguson should scare most fighters. His next fight is up against Arman Tsarukyan under the Real American Freestyle (RAF) banner on June 13.

\As it stands, Avila is clearly unbothered about having an underdog status in the fight and won’t mind challenging for Ferguson’s bragging rights.
