Formed unified welterweight champion Keith Thurman says he hopes to move in line for a shot at the winner of Errol Spence Jr versus Danny Garcia by returning to the ring with a victory in early 2021.
Thurman, who has not fought since his points defeat to ring legend Manny Pacquiao in July 2019, touted Yordenis Ugas as a possible foe for his comeback fight, as he looks to reclaim world honours in the coming twelve months.
“Everything in my heart and soul wants to be champion again,” Thurman told the PBC Podcast. “Ideally, I would like to fight anyone who is respectful. It could lead into the winner of Spence-Garcia. Let’s say [I fight] Ugas, the winner could fight Spence or Garcia.
“I don’t know why Spence doesn’t want to fight me. It’d be an exciting fight. It’s be one of the greatest matchups. Maybe he doesn’t have that much interest, but the fans have interest. I still believe I have everything it takes to be number one in the world.
“There’s a little bit of a rivalry between me and Shawn Porter. There’s always been talk of whether anyone from the PBC is going to go over and face Crawford. There’s that as well. I love the welterweight division. We could almost put names in a hat, pick them and put on a show.”
