Retired boxer Tony Bellew announced the one fight that would get him back in the ring not long ago. Now, he has had another offer from a rather unlikely source who says ‘nobody likes him, let’s fight.’
World title contender Ohara Davis and former cruiserweight champion Bellew first came to blows six years ago over comments Davis was alleged to have made about the Hillsborough disaster.
Davis always maintained his innocence but was still dropped by his promoter Matchroom over the matter. He has now built back and found himself in a favourable position in the sport, recently signing with Golden Boy Promotions.
Speaking to IFL TV, Davis was asked his feelings towards Bellew following more recent comments that he was ‘a clown.’
“My feelings towards him is if he wants to make it happen, I’ll come up in weight and take him out.”
Davis then began to lay into Bellew’s size.
“Ask him to get in the gym, train. I saw him on TV looking chubby. Guy’s gone massive, he’s completely let himself go.”
Former WBA international super-lightweight champion ‘OD’ explained why he still has beef with Bellew.
“We’ve been going back and forth online for years now. Let’s f***ing fight. When I got thrown under the bus he was the main one going in saying ‘Ohara said this, Ohara said that. Eddie, you need to drop him.’ He was the main one.
This is why I’m not over it. It was over six years ago now. I was innocent. I never said anything about Hillsborough, but that could have been my career done.”
Finally, Davis reiterated his desire to fight Bellew.
“I’d love to give him a right hand to his chin. That’s just how I feel about it. He’s a p***k. Nobody likes him”
It’s true that some weird and wonderful fights have been made recently but this one seems a step too far. Bellew has said the one fight he would return for is a WBC Bridgerweight World Title shot against Lucas Rozanski.
As for Davies, he will fight Ismael Barroso on December 2 before an ordered title shot against WBA Super-Lightweight Champion, Rolando Romero, next year.
