Tony Bellew held nothing back in the first fight week press conference in Liverpool on Monday. He verbally attacked David Haye from multiple angles and definitely had not forgiven ‘The Hayemaker’ for the comments he made last year in Liverpool.
Haye has been vocal about fighting Anthony Joshua and continuing his career should he convincingly beat Bellew this upcoming Saturday. The Liverpudlian believes that Haye is only motivated by money and not the challenges.
“David is back for money. He’s not back for the belts because if he were back for the belts, he would have chosen Deontay Wilder instead of me. He could make the Deontay Wilder fight with one phone call to Al Haymon. He has ties and links to Al Haymon. So why would he choose a little fat cruiserweight? He’s got ‘goals’ to become world heavyweight champion why would he fight a little cruiserweight?” asked Bellew out loud in an interview with Boxing Social.
“He chose me because I was a mouth who could drum up a big fight. He would make a lot of money and he looked at me as a soft touch. He got in the ring with me, he made the mistake and he paid the price dearly for losing to me,” said Bellew.
‘The Bomber’ then added that in his mind the Londoner is ‘a liar’ and ‘a fraud.’
“If he gets past me, he’s only interested in Anthony Joshua. There’s another fighter called Deontay Wilder and it would be a mega-money fight in the states? He doesn’t want that fight because it’s a big risk for not as much reward as the reward for Anthony Joshua. He’s conning everyone. He’s a liar, he’s a fraud,” he claimed.
The big question for Bellew is: what happens after the David Haye chapter of his career is over? Bellew was famously called out by Tyson Fury after Haye pulled out from their original December rematch and the Liverpudlian still hasn’t forgotten about ‘The Gypsy King.’

“I could face Tyson Fury and I could beat him. Purely for the simple reason of I punch harder than him. I’ve got a better work rate than him. I’ve got a few attributes over him but I won’t discuss them now, I’ll discuss them if I’ll ever get to fight him,” he concluded.
