Former WBC cruiserweight champion, Tony Bellew, has made his choice between two of the biggest fights in the heavyweight division.
which are being rumoured to be taking place in a four-man tournament in Saudi Arabia.
Talks are currently ongoing for a historic night of boxing, which will see the undisputed heavyweight title put up for grabs as Tyson Fury takes on Oleksandr Usyk, supported by the long-awaited clash between Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua – on the same night.
Whilst it is early days, and boxing fans know only too well what tends to happen in these situations, credibility has been added to the ‘plans’ by Eddie Hearn.
In an interview with iFL TV, Bellew shared his excitement ahead of the proposed tournament, even if it goes ahead without Fury, admitting that he prefers the Wilder vs Joshua clash.
“Some going that, to be honest. If you have got three out of the four, that’s really impressive. If anything, you’ve got the most watchable fight already made, because nobody wants to see a fight more than Wilder-AJ. No-one in the world can tell me what is going to happen [when they meet].
Of course [Fury-Usyk is a big fight], but more people will want to watch Wilder-AJ, if you’ve got a choice to watch one, I’m just saying.
The first one who lands big wins, because both of them are brilliant finishers. Wilder is a little bit more reckless and wild, whilst AJ is more calculated and is probably a better finisher, because he is technically better. I have no idea what would happen, and I would pay good, good money to see it.”
Two of the most anticipated fights in the sport happening on the same night would be unheard of and fans would be wise to not get their hopes up after years of watching the biggest clashes in the division fail to materialise.
