Tony Bellew is looking forward to the ‘mad, crazy’ spectacle that is Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury, and believes that all the pressure is on one man.
The fight pits perhaps the most famous content creator from the US against one of the UK’s top reality TV stars – it just so happens that they can both fight a bit, too.
After two bouts falling through, the third attempt is set for Sunday February 26 in Saudi Arabia. Former cruiserweight world champion, Bellew, told JOE that all the pressure is on the Brit.
“I don’t see absolutely any risk for Jake Paul. He’s going in there with a professional fighter. He’s only ever boxed MMA people and YouTubers. In my opinion, he has nothing to lose.”
“It’s a mad, crazy fight … the pressure is on Tommy Fury. You’ve heard what his brother’s said. If he loses, stay in Saudi Arabia and be a PT to Cristiano Ronaldo – I was just like, that’s a bit heavy.”
Whilst Bellew didn’t make an out-and-out prediction, he believes Paul to have the most impressive win on his record so far, and talked down Fury’s abilities as a boxer.
“I feel for Tommy Fury because he’s just been thrust into this and I’m not sure if he’s cut out for it. I don’t think he’ll ever even win a British title. There’s no shame in that because winning a British title’s very hard.”
“Jake Paul has a better win on his record than anyone Tommy Fury’s ever faced. He’s beat Anderson Silva. Anderson Silva beat a former world champion in Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, so that says it all.”
“If you say who’s career’s going better right now, you’d probably say Jake Paul. Which is mad because he doesn’t fight boxers – that says an awful lot about who Tommy Fury’s fought so far.”
“When they get in the ring and the bell goes, I think we’ll find out who the better man is pretty quickly.”
The fight is available on BT Sport Box Office in the UK and ESPN+ in America.
