Tony Bellew has warned old friend and fellow former world champion Carl Froch that should they fight ‘he wouldn’t see the final bell.’
Bellew is a popular DAZN pundit who retired after losing to undisputed cruiserweight Oleksandr Usyk, but before that he stepped up to heavyweight and twice defeated David Haye on huge Sky Pay-Per-View bouts.
Froch meanwhile never went higher than super-middleweight where he won multiple world titles over a decorated career, most famously knocking out George Groves in front of 80, 000 people at Wembley in his final bout with a huge right hand.
The pair have appeared on Froch’s own Froch on Fighting podcast before now and joked about a potential fight and the subject has come up again recently.
In an interview, Bellew was asked: “Carl Froch joked about fighting you… could it happen?” and gave a fulsome response.
“Was Carl Froch really joking? You really never know with Carl. I don’t know what the price would be to get me in the ring to fight Carl in an exhibition, but it wouldn’t go the distance I can tell you that much. Never say never. It wouldn’t take place at Goodison Park, but Carl wouldn’t see the final bell let me tell you that.
“If somebody offers me the right price, then I’m sorry to say that I am fighting again. Everybody has a price and everyone on social media can say what they like but if everybody needs to get paid and if they offer the right price then you do it and get on it.”
It’s fair to say that money talks but outside of a huge and unlikely offer it seems this one will remain a fantasy fight.
